A Weekend Outdoors

Happy Sunday, friends!

We had some beautiful weather in Florida this weekend. It has been 60° weather and sunny, which is perfect in my book! We decided to roll with the outdoor activities after our walk on the beach Friday night and head to the dog park on Saturday afternoon.

We spent nearly 2 hours walking the trails of the dog park and playing our typical game of hide and seek with Ob & Marley.

Marley the Seeker

I’m not sure who had more fun; us or the dogs. Dave & I laugh so hard playing hide and seek with those crazy pups. They get so excited when they find us. You would think we were hiding from them for days each time they found us, rather than 3-4 minutes.

Oh Happy Day

After our trip to the dog park and baths for Ob & Marley, Dave & I cleaned up too and made our way to the Jacksonville Town Center, an outdoor shopping mall. We  wanted to peruse some stores and continue enjoying the nice weather. Of course, no photos were taken to document the fact that I did wash my hair, put on make up and wear something that isn’t only appropriate for the gym. You’ll just have to take my word that I didn’t wear Nike running shorts on our date night. After we priced out some furniture at a few stores, we enjoyed a nice Italian meal at Maggianos. Once we finished dinner, we went out dancing until 2 a.m.

*Kidding* There is actually a better chance of us winning the lottery and buying that beach house I showed you Friday. I don’t do 2 a..m…or anytime after  8 p.m. if I can help it.

We came home and enjoyed some tea before crawling into bed at 9 p.m. Party people up in here!

This morning we woke up around 7 and headed to Starbucks for some breakfast. Dave enjoyed a cup of coffee, a glass of OJ and 2 bacon, egg and gouda sandwiches. I had my favorite strawberry blueberry yogurt parfait and a water while we sat in those comfy chairs and chatted away.

After a quick trip to Publix, CVS and the bank we grabbed the dogs and went to the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens. It was my first visit to the Arboretum and I was blown away by the beautiful nature trails. It did not feel like we were in Florida. The trails reminded me of the areas we hiked in North Carolina, minus the steep elevations and ice. Minor differences really. ha

Nature Trail Hike

We stayed out there for 2 hours hiking and exploring all the various trails and we’re already talking about going back next weekend. Such a neat find!

Tired Marley

By the time we finished our hike, I was starving so we headed home to eat lunch (leftovers from our Italian dinner) outside on the porch. Waiting for that lasagna to reheat was the longest 15 minutes of my life. Not even joking. I stood by the oven the entire time willing the timer to beep at me.

After lunch, we curled up on the couch to watch the movie, Life As We Know It. OMG! I fell in love with this movie. It was so sweet…so sweet that I cried and I never cry in movies. Ever. It is an older movie, but as always I’m late to the party. Guys (& by ‘guys’ I mean ‘girls’), you have to watch it if you haven’t seen it yet!

Now I’m returning the chick-flick favor and gearing up to watch the Super Bowl with Dave. I’m cheering for San Fran because apparently ‘you have to pick a team.’

What fun things did you do this weekend?

  1. I am so jealous that you got to spend the weekend outside!! Ahhh I’m so sick of the east coast winters. I spent my weekend running and then just lazing around the house. Would have been better if I could have enjoyed the patio instead 🙂

    • Sarah – I’m jealous of all those miles you logged this week! You’re an inspiration!

  2. Okay, you guys definitely win the award for cutest little family. This sounds like the most amazing weekend. And I LOVE ‘Life as we Know It’ It’s one of the first movies that Dan and I watched together 🙂 Thank goodness you appreciate an early bedtime too. We are definitely going to be the craziest girls in Utah this spring, haha!

  3. This so reminds me of life 8 or 9 years ago. When it was just me, Ian, and Henry (the golden). Every weekend was a new adventure and early bedtime was such a fun luxury.

So glad we had that time, and yet…wouldn’t trade now for anything. Highlight of the weekend. Driving 20 min to the Y to run, only to relize once I got there I only had 15 min until Childcare closed. Son of a…

    What’s your next race?

    • Amy, I don’t have another race on the books for 2013. I’m currently trying to decide what I want out of my next fitness goal. How is your half training going? 🙂

      • Half training is going fine.
        Only week 2.

May I suggest the Tough Mudder?
        Let’s do it.

        • I will google the Tough Mudder tonight, Amy! What city is it in?

          • It’s in Pittsburgh. Sat Aug 24th and Sunday Aug 25th. I SO WANT to do it, and I am also scared to death. I am teetering on the edge of commiting to make that MY fitness goal (after April’s half). Watch the video. Yikes, but then you see the clip of the guy in the wheelchair and you are all “HELL TO THE NO!! I am DOING IT!!” I don’t know, definitely a “Team” thing. A hardcore chick in my bootcamp class is doing it so I/we have the option of joining her crew.

  4. Your outdoor weekend looks like so much fun!!! I’ve never seen Life as we Know It but now I think I should….

My weekend was pretty low key…but sometimes those are the best. Running errands, Starbucks, a quick TJMaxx trip, etc. I did catch up on some Bachelor episodes too, which is worth noting.

  5. What a great weekend! I love that saying on the mug – life starts at the end of your comfort zone! Totally going to use that for motivation in my aerobics classes. 🙂

  6. Your out door adventures look amazing!! Sasha is still a pain in the arse outside with all the excess stimulation and will jump on people to say HELLO!!! (I don’t think that horrible but when her paws are muddy people don’t seem as amused as I am…) I can’t wait until we can take her hiking and running!! Those trails look spectacular, as does your lack of snow and ice : )
