Atlas Eats Real Food

Guess who is coming off their all-liquid diet?

DSC_1393Atlas started eating ‘real’ food about 2 weeks ago and I’m having so much fun during this stage so I felt it was worth documenting.

So far, he loves sweet potatoes and pears. He sort of loves butternut squash. Oatmeal is edible, but not his favorite and judging by his facial expressions apples and bananas are apparently from the Devil. I’m making the majority of his baby food myself so I know exactly what he’s getting. I’m convinced he would like the apples more if I drizzled caramel into them and the bananas would be a bigger hit if I mixed some peanut butter in…but that doesn’t come recommended by the pediatrician. 😉

Feeding a 4 month old with a spoon is a messy job. I found sweet potato remnants behind his ear during bath time the other night. Behind his ear. How does that even happen? I’ll admit his table manners could use some work.

Image 20Oh, and guess who decided Atlas was the coolest little brother in town about 2 weeks ago?

DSC_1409Marley is now campaigning to be Atlas’ best friend. Coincidence? I think not.

ImageThere’s currently a big debate going on in our house over who gets to clean Atlas off after meal time. Ob thinks she should get dibs over Marley because she is the one who guards Atlas while he sleeps.

DSC_1377Dog makes a good argument.

Things are crazy busy (& messy – seriously, sweet potato behind the ear) right now in our house. Lots of exciting things going on though, which I plan on sharing with you soon. I’ve partnered with a great company to help bring more fruits and veggies to people around the world & I begin training with an Olympic athlete next month to improve my running. But tonight, my ‘mom hat’ is on so the fact that my baby boy is growing and eating new foods trumped all that exciting stuff. 🙂 I just can’t believe how fast he is growing…watching a little human grow is pretty darn spectacular.

*Edited to add: I still nurse Atlas for all his meals, but he gets a ‘snack’ once or twice a day in an effort to let him try new foods. Breastmilk is still is main source of nutrition at 4 months though.

  1. I think it’s great your making your own food for Atlas. I love the picture of him hanging on to his food with hands and mouth. He seems to like it too. Your a wonderful mom!

    • Thanks, mom! You were a great example of what a wonderful mom should be! xoxo

  2. Heeeee to him eating the bowl. Must be good stuff!! E is at the stage where purees aren’t good enough for me. It’s what we are eating or he pitches a fit. It’s so funny!

Baby growth is truly amazing to watch!

    • E is just beautiful! And I can’t wait until Atlas can eat what we’re eating…although, the clean up is a bit more work than breastfeeding. ha

  3. So fun!! I loved making Luke’s baby food – super easy and way cheaper and super nice to know EXACTLY what your baby is getting. And the puppy + Atlas pics just melt my heart! AND I can’t wait to hear what else you are up to – you are such a teaser today!! Finally, make sure you link up on my Friday posts when you post on Fridays – any post is welcome!!

    • I will link up this week, Katie! Loved the Friday 5 – such a fun idea! 🙂

  4. That is so great that he is trying new foods! How fun (and messy!!) haha.

Training with an olympian?! DO TELL. 🙂

I’m not sure when we’ll start with food with her, but I think for ease right now, we’re sticking with the white stuff. hehe Prob around 6 months is when we will start!

    • Atlas is still breastfeeding for all his meals, but I’ve just been experimenting in the kitchen making some baby food and letting him try it for a ‘snack.’ It is messy but so fun to watch him experience new things! I think you’ll have fun introducing Lily to new foods.

And I met a girl who is training for the 2016 Olympics. She coaches running on the side, so I’ve hired her to be my running coach! Super excited (& a little nervous lol) to train with her and tell you guys all about it!

  5. I am so excited to learn more about your news 🙂

I have found that 5 tablespoons of brown sugar do the trick for oatmeal. Kidddding. I mean in the sense, that is how I eat it but never suggest it for sweet Atlas!

    Have an awesome weekend!!

    • 5 tablespoons of brown sugar + cocoa powder is the only way I eat oatmeal. 😉
