My “New Yorker” Outfit

This all black look with a utility vest has been a staple look for me the last 2 years and every time I wear it Dave always says I ‘look like a New Yorker.’

Shirt // Denim (mine are a splurge but there’s a less expensive version here and here) // Similar Utility Vest (also really love this one with the hoodie) // Adidas (I ended up buying a kid’s size since they run big, so I saved about $15 on mine)

With temperatures finally dropping a bit in Georgia, I returned to this tried and true look, only this time I swapped my typical booties for my new adidas shoes (because I’m obsessed with them and I’m wearing them every chance I get and I only wish I had these in NYC because these would have been terrific for walking the city).

Whenever Dave says I look like a New Yorker I always make him clarify what kind of New Yorker he thinks I look like. After living in the city, I’ve come to the conclusion that looking like a New Yorker could be considered a huge compliment or a serious insult. One of my favorite things to do in the city was people watch and I always felt like people in the city had the best street style. Whenever we would walk around SoHo I would notice how everyone seemed to look casual, but still so put together and edgy. And when we would walk around Lincoln Center or the UES I would see people dressed like they just stepped out of the pages of Vogue. But then we also saw people that looked homeless, but the designer bag on their arm insinuated that they probably lived in a very nice apartment but their style was just sloppy. I can’t tell you how many times Dave & I would look at each other on the street and ask, “WHAT is that person wearing?!” SO, all that to say…whenever Dave says I look like a New Yorker I’m all, “You better not be referring to that New Yorker we saw on West 93rd that day with birds in her hair.”

Anyways, this is one of my go-to looks because it is comfortable and functional. The utility vest is amazing because I love having lots of pockets for my phone, money, Andi’s pacifiers, Atlas’ little toy trucks, etc. I’m basically the mule that holds all the things.

It’s one of my ‘mom uniforms’ for sure, but I love the edgy vibe the ripped denim adds to the look.

(This is the face Andi Rose gives us when we tell her not to touch something – Lawd help me.)

(I seriously cannot get over how big Atlas looks on his new bike.)

I wish I looked as cute in my black leggings as Andi Rose does in hers. Her little moto leggings kill me every time she wears them. And if you’re wondering what I’m doing in the photos below, I’m fishing acorns out of Andi’s mouth. She puts everything in her mouth so I’m constantly reaching my fingers in her mouth saying, “Spit it out, Andi Rose! Spit it out!”

Judging by her little grin, I would say she likes this game she plays with me a whole lot more than I do. But that’s basically what motherhood is…Fishing things out of your kid’s mouth. And replacing batteries. And washing clothes. If you can do those 3 things well, then I would say you’re pretty much ready for motherhood. 😉

And one more random story in this post because who doesn’t love a good rabbit trail? I remember wearing this vest in Manhattan while walking the dogs one day and I had my phone in my pocket and my phone fell out, but I didn’t realize it until after I got home. A kind woman found my phone in the park and answered it when Dave called and she said I could come pick the phone up from her office. She worked on 5th Ave in this super swanky art gallery and I showed up to get my phone dressed in an outfit similar to this, only my hair was in a greasy top-knot and I had a baby strapped to my chest in the baby b’jorn. Everyone at the gallery was in really dressy clothes…and there I was in my ripped denim and utility vest and I was so wishing I was invisible, but Atlas was crying (because that’s what he did as a baby) so everyone was staring and…just one of those moments I won’t forget. BUT, YAY for nice people who find phones and return them!

Question of the Day: Have you ever been to NYC? What did you think of people’s street style there?

Alternate Question: What’s your go-to uniform?

Blush & Pink are My Colors

Hiiii! I’m keeping this post short for a few reasons. One, I wanted to be in bed by 10pm and it is currently 9:55pm. Two, my computer is being lame. It keeps overheating and giving me that spinning rainbow wheel of death. And three, this an outfit post and there isn’t much to say, except that I think I may want to be buried in this pink faux leather jacket. It gives me all the “Steel Magnolia” feels. Blush and pink are my colors.

Pink leather jacket // cami (closet staple) // Black denim (on sale and they fit like leggings!) // sneakers // Lipstick is Saint Germain by Mac // dog not for sale

Oh, & I finally caved and bought the Adidas sneakers and I’m already over-wearing them. L-O-V-E. They run big, so I ended up buying a kid’s pair and saved some money since kid shoes are cheaper than adult shoes. How’s that for a sneaky win?!

Also, these are my first pair of Rag & Bone jeans. I’m an AG girl, but after wearing these jeans that feel like leggings, I can see what all the hype is about Rag & Bone. They are pretty great and Nordstrom’s is price matching right now, so they are on sale.

I hope your Tuesday is a good one! Tuesday is our busiest day of the week so it always passes by in a flash!

Fall Fitness Uniform

I spend too much time online shopping, and someone should totally benefit from my hobby (Not sure if ‘hobby’ is the right word…perhaps skill? problem?). If you’re in the market for some new athleisure gear (aka ‘mom clothes’), I’ve got you covered!

I recently purchased 2 knotted t-shirts and I love the flare the knot adds to an otherwise plain jain shirt (similar here and more expensive version here). (The knot does come up kind of high on the June and Hudson shirt though, so if you are considering that purchase, plan on wearing it with high waisted jeans or leggings…unless of course you don’t mind your stomach showing…then get it, girrrrl!) I think the one I linked above is so cute and sporty and perfect for transitioning from a gym workout to running errands. I need another fitness jacket like I need a hole in my head, but I am swooning over the collar of that hoodie. I bought a ridiculous amount of hoodies while we were living in NYC (because I would wear 3 at a time some days) so I can’t justify buying that jacket, but I keep looking at it and thinking how much I want it. But I’m starting to think it doesn’t get cold in Georgia, in which case I’ve got half a closet full of jackets I’m going to need to sell…

I tried on these faux leather leggings in Athleta a few weeks ago and I cannot stop thinking about them! OMG. They are SO cute and I felt so chic in them, and who doesn’t want to feel chic while still being in comfy leggings?

The tote I linked is reversible, so you’re basically getting 2 bags for the price of one (←that’s what you tell your husband). #practical

And I’m still obsessing over those adidas superstars. They are available in pink and green now too! Gah! But I would still get the white and black or white and gold, just because I like pieces that match everything so I have the option to wear it more often.

Most days my ‘mom uniform’ consist of either jeans and a t-shirt ($5 Target t-shirts for the win) or a cami (my absolute favorite cami is here) or some kind of fitness get-up. See Exhibit A…

If you read yesterday’s post and you’re wondering how that 5 mile run with the double stroller went…well, it didn’t. I bailed on that idea. Both my kids have runny noses and so I let them sleep in and I was not pushing the beast of a stroller over all our neighborhood hills in the heat of the day. I worked out at home and I’m just rolling with it and hoping I can tweak my schedule this week to make up the run. Blessed are the flexible for they will not be bent out of shape, right?

Summer Vibes

Apparently, I have a lot of summer lovin’ friends. I keep seeing #SummerDontGo and #SummerDontEnd every time I get on social media. Meanwhile, I’m sitting over here staring at my blanket scarves and boots, dreaming about decorating our front porch with pumpkins and mums. I’m itching to take the kids apple picking, bake some pumpkin bread and see the leaves change in the mountains. I’m really dying to play outside with Atlas and Andi Rose and not sweat to death.

Summer Vibes

Summer Vibes2

My Babies

While we did get some temperatures in the 60’s this morning (yay!!), the forecast in Georgia is still calling for highs of 90 degrees so I decided to quit daydreaming about all things fall and embrace these final days of summer. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em right?!

Sweet Summertime

So I ordered this adorable summery top (solid white version here, similar version here), which I think will be cute into fall paired with a blazer. I’m a sucker for anything with ruffles and the ruffles going around the collar of this shirt totally sold me. (I also snagged this shirt and it is an adorable piece for now and again in the fall too.)

In my effort to savor the last of summer, I also bought the stuff to make a s’mores pie. I’ve made this pie a few times already this summer & it has been a hit every time I’ve made it! I’ve made several recipes from Two Peas & Their Pod and every single thing has been so so good. I recommend that blog if you’re looking for food inspiration. 🙂

The only thing better than that s’mores pie is getting a surprise kiss from your toddler and having your husband actually catch it on camera.

Atlas has been such a mama’s boy lately and I love how much he loves me (although he does ask me multiple times a day, “When is daddy coming home?” so he definitely has a huge spot in his heart for Dave too). He has been so kind to Andi Rose lately too.

Oh, Andi Rose – my sweet girl – my wild child…

Wild Child

Andi Rose was up last night from 1:30-3:30am. That isn’t like her – she’s actually become a really terrific sleeper. When I went in to check on her, she saw me and immediately started giggling. I wanted to be upset, but she’s just so darn cute. I couldn’t help but smile and she actually let me rock her back to sleep which was so amazing! But then she woke back up 20 minutes later and I was like, “Oh, no. I’m done now, sweetie. We can play tomorrow after 8am.” I ended up giving her Tylenol and she finally fell asleep – I think she is teething…who knows. This motherhood business is tricky.

Sweet Siblings

Anyways, Atlas and Andi Rose are becoming the best of friends and I adore their little relationship. Atlas loves kissing Andi Rose before she goes to bed at night and she thinks he is the funniest person on the planet.

Summer Fun

Those 2 little humans bring me indescribable joy (even if I am a sleep deprived zombie because of them).

So, if you need us, my crew will be at the pool or playing in the sprinkler until fall decides to arrive in the south. Just know that while I may be dressed for summer, I’m dreaming about pumpkin spice latte’s and holiday decorations and Christmas music is totally playing in my head. And oh my gosh – these booties! I’m dreaming about these booties because they are LEOPARD! Leopard freaking booties, people! It doesn’t get any better. #HurryUpFall #ByeSummer

What’s your favorite season? Summer was definitely my favorite when I was in school & it equated to time off & vacation. But as an adult, I prefer the mood that seems to come naturally with fall & the holidays. ☺️

Life Lately: Favorite Things

Phew! This week was a long one, ya’ll. Potty training isn’t for the faint of heart (Atlas is doing so so good, but it still requires me to drop whatever I am doing 46 times a day to go to the bathroom with him) and my kids decided they only wanted their naps to overlap 1 day this week, so after Monday I never experienced another nap time. I feel like a big ole’ stress ball today since I count on nap time to get all the things done, but I’m pretty much over it and ready to embrace all the glory of the weekend (read: I’m ready to stuff my face with pizza & wine tonight and call it a week)! Before I check out for the weekend, I wanted to share some things with you that I’ve been loving lately and I think you will love too! 🙂

Honest Beauty Lipsticks

Honest Beauty

Oh.Em.Gee. Ya’ll! This lipstick. It is SO good. I bought it after watching a beauty vlogger rave about it and it more than lived up to the hype. I think we can all agree that Jessica Alba can do no wrong. She is perfection, so I probably shouldn’t have been surprised at how great her new beauty line is. This may be my favorite lipstick I’ve ever owned just based on the formula and how hydrating it is. It isn’t drying at all. It isn’t sticky. It really is the perfect grab-n-go lipstick. I am wearing it in the shade honey kiss above. It is a good, soft neutral/nude that’s perfect for everyday wear. I also ordered the shade Marsala Kiss after loving honey kiss so much. Marsala Kiss is a gorgeous shade for fall. I really love the pink shades, but I thought with fall right around the corner I wanted something with a darker tone, but seriously – all my will power is going into not ordering every shade. I also got the lip gloss in creative kiss and I love it just as much and it pairs perfectly with marsala kiss. They are priced at $18, so really right in between your drugstore lipstick and your higher end brands like YSL/Nars. I’m not affiliated with Honest Beauty at all – this is an unbiased review. I just genuinely love the product that much and wanted to share it with any of my girls looking for some new beauty products to try.

Toddler Lunch Plate

Toddler Lunch Plate

My sister gave me this idea when we moved to Atlanta and it’s probably one that all my mom friends already know about, but just in case you’re like me and didn’t know about this genius trick I wanted to share it here. I’ve been serving Atlas’ lunch in this adorable silicone cupcake pan (Similar cute pan here too) and he thinks it is the greatest thing ever! He loves when he gets his ‘special plate’ and it makes lunch time a littler easier. Also, it makes it easier for me to tell exactly what he ate and exactly what he didn’t eat because all his food is separated. Mama friends, if you haven’t tried this trick with your toddlers, give it a try.

Levain’s Copycat Cookie Recipe

I linked this recipe on the blog last week, but it is worth mentioning again. I’ve since made another batch of these cookies and I think it may be my new favorite cookie recipe. No cookie will ever truly compare to the Heavenly monster cookies from Levain’s (one of our favorite bakeries when we lived in NYC), but this copycat recipe is pretty darn close. They are SO thick and cake-like and my kids LOVE them. If you’re looking to make homemade cookies, give this recipe a try and make sure you use cake flour – I think that makes all the difference.

The Red Sea Rules Book

The Red Sea Rules

My mom got this book for Dave & me after Dave’s uncle passed away last month and I’ve been slowly working my way through it (my children don’t allow me a lot of time to read) and it has really encouraged my heart so much. The author uses the story of the Israelites crossing the Red Sea after being led out of Egypt to deliver 10 strategies for walking through seemingly impossible situations. The book isn’t long, but it is such a good read and a great reminder that sometimes God leads us to scary places, just as He did with the Israelites, to grow our faith and exalt His glory. I have a tendency to immediately think, “How can I get out of this?” when I’m in an uncomfortable place and this book is challenging me to instead ask the question, “How can God’s name be glorified in this?” If you or someone you know is struggling right now (divorce, break-up, financial stress, job loss, death of a loved one, life in a new city, etc), I would totally recommend this book (it is less than $10). I also think it is worth mentioning that the author even discusses those situations in life that we get into as a result of our own foolish decisions and I found that chapter to be very encouraging (because Lord knows I’ve led myself into some murky waters in the past).

Mama, if you’re reading, thanks for the great gift! 🙂

Raw Probiotics for Kids

Probiotics for Kids

A few weeks ago when our house got hit with yet another stomach virus, our sweet neighbor ran this probiotic powder for kids down and told me to try it with Atlas & Andi Rose. Andi Rose seems to always have tummy issues and I’ve been mixing this powder with her baby yogurt or apple sauce and her tummy does seem to be doing a lot better the last 2 weeks, so I’m going to keep on using this stuff. I ordered some of our own after my neighbor let us try her powder and neither of my kids have even noticed that I’m mixing it into their food once a day. It is supposed to promote digestive health and help support the immune system and after all the sicknesses we’ve had in our house the last 4 months, I’m willing to try anything. My neighbor raved about it and it got great reviews on Amazon and after 2 weeks of giving it to my kids, I’m digging it too. Andi Rose hasn’t had one tummy issue in the last 2 weeks. *knock on wood*

Also, hooray for sweet southern neighbors! I just love good people.

Black Booties

I realized after I published yesterday’s outfit post, that I probably should have linked some other black booties in case any of you were in the market for a pair but didn’t want to splurge on a designer pair. I think black booties are a must-have for fall, and I’m itching to bust out mine and all my other fall accessories! If you’re on the hunt for some black booties to rock with jeans/black pants/dresses then check out some of the ones I’m linking in this paragraph. I actually bought these block heel booties for my mom as a thank-you gift during the #nsale. I tried them on and fell in love with them. They are comfortable and they look beautiful on. I also want these so bad, but I’m pretty sure Dave will send me to some sort of rehab if I order 1 more pair of shoes. These Sole Society booties are less than $100 and I actually tried these on in Nordstroms and I was shocked to realize they were by Toms because they were so cute! (Not that Toms can’t be cute…but you know what I’m saying, right?) And these Splendid booties are super cute (I love the shade nut suede too).

And that’s a wrap for this week, friends! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. Leave a comment below telling me what you’re loving this week – and make it good because I love reading your comments! 😉

Floppy Hats + A Few Other {Random} Things

I’m pretty sure this floppy hat is going to be my favorite fall accessory.

And I’m pretty sure this is my favorite photo ever taken of Andi Rose.

Front Porch Swinging

Her grin showing off those 6 little teeth is seriously the best! My heart could just burst. But oh my word, she’s been such a naughty booger today. It is a good thing she’s adorable and for every annoying thing she does (like climbing on all the things she shouldn’t), she also does something so gosh darn sweet. Her latest ‘trick’ is she loves to hand me things. She will pick up something – a leaf, a bug (so gross), a toy, something out of my purse, etc – and run it over to me with the biggest smile on her face and she babbles “eeeeessseee” which I think to her means “these” because whenever she hands me something, I always say, “Oh! Thank you for these!” It is so precious – except when she hands me a bug. Then I’m like, “Um no. You save that trick for the unlikely event that I die and you do that to the woman your dad remarries.” I kid, I kid.

My Sweet Girl

In other new, we are potty training Atlas this week and I’ll tell you the reason why I decided it was time: We ran out of diapers. I went to put him in a diaper this week and realized we were completely out and thought, “Well, guess it is time to potty train.” I threw him in some toddler underwear I picked up weeks ago, crossed my fingers, said a Hail Mary prayer and prepared myself for the worst. Much to my surprise, he has done SO good. He had a few accidents the first day, but he’s such a little people pleaser (like his mama) so it seems like he really wants to get it. Dave also surprised him with new Finding Nemo underwear (Dave is the sweetest) and Atlas was over the moon about those bad boys and cried when we wouldn’t let him sleep in them (he’s still sleeping in a pull-up). I’m so proud of him and he amazes me every day with how much he is learning, changing and growing. I love the toddler season so so much. Oh, and Atlas told me now that he’s done with diapers he wants to go to Disney World. That kid drives a tough bargain.

Since we are potty training, my anxiety level has been at about a 12 on a scale of 1-10 (I ask Atlas 32 times a day if he has to go potty and I’m confident we spend 7 hours sitting in the bathroom each day because he ‘thinks’ he has to go) & we’ve left our house exactly 2 times this week. Both times were for ice-cream. Well, actually one of the times we had to go out and get diapers for Andi Rose (apparently I just dropped the ball on diapers this week) but I wasn’t leaving the house just for that. I was about to put homegirl in a swim diaper until our Amazon Prime order arrived and Dave said if we ran out to get her diapers we could stop for ice cream so I was like, “Kids! Get in the car!”

That was quite the rabbit trail, wasn’t it? I feel like I could write an entire post on my thoughts on potty training. But, I also feel like I’ve said the word ‘potty’ more times than is socially acceptable in this post.

Anyways, back to this outfit…

I’ve never been a hat person, mainly because I don’t think I’m cool enough for them, but now I have 2 kids and I love the idea of something hiding my greasy hair, allowing me to go 1 more day without washing it. This floppy hat is heavy, which is great because it won’t blow away on a windy day and it will add some warmth on those chilly fall days! I love it and I really think it is my current favorite accessory!

My dress is old, but I’ll link some similar ones below. I got my booties during the #nsale so they were over 50% off back then. They were still a splurge, but I have 2 other pair of Stuart Weitzman boots that are over a decade old (!!) and I still wear them, so I can justify the money a little more when I know I will wear the shoe for years and I was on the hunt for a good black bootie! And these are a timeless piece for the wardrobe…and it doesn’t matter how much ice-cream I eat, they will always fit!

Similar Dress here & here & here / Floppy hat / Booties / Henri Bendel’s Necklace

I love this outfit for summer because the dress is so comfortable and lightweight but I think it will be perfect in the fall with a cardigan! It is such an easy style and its great for transitioning from summer to fall.

So that’s that. I hope you guys are liking these fashion posts I’ve been adding to CnC. I love clothes, so these are fun for me to shoot and write. 🙂 And if you like anything you see here, you can always Pin it…sharing is caring, right?

Question of the day: What’s your potty training tips?

Alternate Question of the day: What’s your weekend plans? It’s almost FRIDAY! 🎉
