A Gift Guide for the Hostess with the Mostess

Tis the season for gift giving and holiday shopping! One of my favorite parts about Christmas is picking out gifts for my family and friends. Dave actually complains every year that I put too much thought into people’s gifts because I will go back and forth between gift ideas for hours (sometimes days) – what can I say…I am plagued with indecisiveness.

Since I love shopping (*ahem* for myself and for others), I’ll be posting some gift guides on the blog this month. To kick things off, I’m sharing gift ideas for the hostess with the mostess today. I’m sure we all have that friend/sister/neighbor who is a domestic goddess and lover of all things home and entertaining. If you’re wondering what in the world to get her for Christmas, I’m hoping today’s post can provide you with some gift-giving inspiration.

So, let’s get to it, shall we?!

  1. Candles, Candles, Candles + Cute Matches: I’m biased to this particular gift because I love burning candles. A candle is one of my very favorite gifts to give and receive! You can splurge and get a fancy candle, or you can hit up Target or Bath and Body Works for a $12 candle. As far as expensive candles go, I love Nest candles and Henri Bendel candles. I swear Henri Bendel Candles truly make the entire downstairs of my home smell fantastic. If you’re looking to keep it under $20 though, you can’t go wrong with Bath & Body Works candles or Target candles. And take the gift up a notch by throwing in some cute matches – I’m obsessed with these Henri Bendel matches and they are actually on my personal Christmas list this year. For $5, they would make a great little stocking stuffer for the candle lover in your life.
  2. Hot Chocolate Mix + a Cute Mug: If you know someone who is always hosting, get them a decadent hot chocolate mix to serve their guests this holiday season. This Williams-Sonoma Hot Chocolate mix is a favorite in our house (I personally love the peppermint version). Add a cute mug like this one or this one (less than $5) to the gift and you’re set!
  3. Throw Blanket: If you know someone who is always hosting – especially overnight guests – I think this barefoot dreams throw would be a perfect present. This gift is a total splurge, but oh my gosh! I’ve purchased 2 things from Barefoot Dreams and both are ridiculously soft. It would be great thrown over the back of the couch or at the foot of a guest bed. I also love this throw from Target for the holidays – super cute!
  4. Beautiful Apron + Matching Pot Holder: I’m pretty sure any gift that comes in an Anthropologie gift bag is sure to be a home-run, right? I adore their home section and I think their aprons make for great hostess gifts. If you want to add on to the gift, you can usually find matching pot holders to go along with the apron, which is just too gosh darn cute.
  5. Hand Wash + Lotion Duo: This hand wash and lotion set is perfect for the kitchen or bathroom. A hostess is constantly serving others and probably lives hovered over their kitchen sink cleaning up messes made in their kitchen, so why not treat them to a luxurious hand soap and lotion?

I’m a firm believer that it is truly the thought that counts and you don’t have to spend a fortune to make someone feel special. In fact, my favorite gifts are the ones that include a hand written card letting me know why they thought the gift was perfect for me. So, my advice is always think about the person you are shopping for and what would mean the most to them.

Do you have any gift ideas for the hostess? Leave them in the comments below! Also, if there is a specific gift guide you would like me to put together, leave that in a comment below too and I’ll try to get the ball rolling on it! 🙂

Glam Giveaway for My Girls!

Hello, hello! I hope you are checking back in today after a nice long weekend away celebrating with your friends and family! Things were pretty quiet around CnC last week because Dave was off work, so we tried our best to disconnect from our phones and computers and just enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with our little family.

It was so great and my only complaint is that it all passed by too quickly. I wish we could relive last week all over again, as I’m currently fighting some serious Monday blues over here.

BUT, with Thanksgiving officially behind us, that means Christmas is right around the corner and to kick off the Christmas season I’m hosting another giveaway today! YAY!

Since so many of you participated in my last giveaway, I wanted to do 1 more just to thank you all again for your readership, kindness and virtual friendship. You guys are the best so consider this my Christmas present to you. ♥

Today’s giveaway is for my product junkie friends! It is no secret around these parts that I love trying new beauty products. From make-up, to skincare products to the latest haircare craze – I’m a sucker for it all.

So, today I’m giving away a few of my favorite beauty products to 1 lucky reader!

My Home Office

Hey, party people! Happy Monday to you!

The Monday of a holiday week never feels as ‘blah’ right? I know in Georgia schools are out the entire week, so the holiday cheer is in full swing around these parts.

Our weekend passed by in a flash and we officially have some of our Christmas decorations up! We have 2 of our 3 trees up, but they aren’t decorated yet. Decorating for the holidays with 2 tiny children at home means we work in short shifts…very, very short shifts. Any other mama’s out there relate?

Anyways, today I’m sharing some details about our home office.

Every time I post a picture of this room on Instagram, someone will reach out and ask me about where something is from in the photo so I figured I would share it all here with you today.

A decorator I most certainly am not, but I did have the best time putting this little space together. It is my favorite room in our house.

  • Paint color: Benjamin Moore’s Sugar Cane
  • Desk
  • Leopard bench  in Serengeti Camel
  • Office chair in shade linen peony
  • Rug
  • Etageres
  • Leopard throw pillow
  • Gray bench
  • Most of the stuff on my desk came from Target, except the striped candle holder is Henri Bendels and the mason jar that serves as my pencil holder is from Etsy (Henri Bendels has the best candles, but don’t pay full price for them! They go on sale from time to time for $15 and that’s when you stock up on them)
  • Most of the stuff on my bookshelves is either from Hobby Lobby, Home Goods or Target – I think hobby lobby has the best picture frames for the price.

I would still love to get some art up on the walls, but it’s a process, ya’ll!

I know Ballard Designs is definitely not cheap, but if you’re ever interested in anything from that store wait until they have a sale. Every single piece I bought from Ballard I got on sale! I had to wait a while for the sales to roll around, but my patience paid off because I got many things for 20-30% off (which is a lot when you’re buying furniture).

And I owe a thank you to Ballard Designs because they also sent me some gift cards that I used towards this room. 🙂 If I had a money tree and my children were just a little more civilized and my dogs were a bit smaller, I would decorate my entire home in Ballard furniture. 😉 You know, just a few tiny things standing in my way…like lack of funds…and reality.

We are done decorating for now, but the next room I would like to tackle is our master bedroom. That room of our house needs some serious love but I don’t feel inspired/motivated to mess with it.

I’m hoping to pop in tomorrow with a workout to share with you! I know a few of you have asked that I share more workouts like I did in the days of CNC old, so I’ve put that back on the agenda! We are hosting a Friendsgiving at our house on Tuesday though + I’m cooking our Thanksgiving day meal on Thursday, so I’m in full blown cooking/cleaning/party prep mode. I’m hoping to keep the blog alive this week, but if I’m not around one day you’ll know why. 😉

I hope you are already celebrating the holiday with those you love most and your week is off to a fabulous start! I can barely hold my eyes open right now but yet I can’t turn off the hallmark Christmas movie.

Friday Favorites

Hello and happy Friday, friends! After being out of town the last 2 weekends, I’m looking forward to being home this weekend with no plans. I think I may need to make a plan though to take down our Halloween decorations because I’m in full blown Christmas mode, but then I’m like, “Oh man, that pumpkin over there is kind of throwing me off.” I don’t think we will be busting out our Christmas decor this weekend, but I at least want the jack-o-lanterns gone.

I’m excited to share some Friday Favorites today. In light of all the news (read: negativity) that has been circulating around the election, I think we all need to stop and focus on some things that make us smile! So I’m doing my part today to spread some smiles and sharing some things that I’ve been loving lately! Please play along in the comments below and tell me some of your favorite things lately!

Target Sweater

Ya’ll! This sweater is the best thang since sliced bread. It is comfy, affordable and adorable! I bought this sweater in 2 different patterns, but the leopard is (obviously) my favorite. It’s such an easy piece to style and it can be worn so many different ways (with white pants, with jeans, with a pencil skirt, layered with a button up underneath, etc). I’m obsessed. OBSESSED, I tell you! Target sweaters for the win!

P.S. I know that mirror is dirty. Don’t judge me.

Flipz Chocolate Mint Pretzles

I can’t stop eating these. Chocolate covered pretzels are one of my favorite snacks of all time and around the holidays I’m a sucker for anything mint flavored. When I saw these at Publix, I almost passed them up because I felt like it was still too early in the holiday season to cave and buy them, but then I thought, “I’m not guaranteed tomorrow. I should buy these now.”

P.S. If you are a Jacksonville, Fl reader – Peterbrooke’s chocolate covered pretzels are my favorite chocolate covered pretzels in the the world. If you haven’t tried those, try them this weekend.

Meyers Dish Soap in Mum Scent

Meyers Mum Scent

I bought this on a whim a few weeks ago at Target and OH.Mah.Gosh! It is the best scent ever. When I saw it, I stopped and picked it up and asked Dave, “What does a mum smell like?” Dave said he didn’t know so I opened the lid and smelled it. Turns out a mum smells like Heaven. This is my favorite dish soap I’ve ever used based solely on the smell. I like the floral smell so much, I want the full arsenal of cleaning supplies in the mum scent.

SFH Pure Whey Protein Powder

Pure Protein Powder

We recently switched over to using this protein powder and I’ve been loving it. I mix it with almond milk after my run in the morning and I love the way it taste. I actually look forward to it every morning when I wake up. I also mix it in smoothies and I’ve used it to bake and the chocolate flavor is on point. If you’re in the market for a protein powder, I recommend this one. I even give it to Atlas (I mix it with his milk) and he loves it.

Maddio’s Greek Salad

This one is for all my local readers! If you have a Maddio’s Pizza joint in your area, go try the Greek Salad. I’ve been craving this salad every day since the first time I tried it. The kids and I got to meet up with Dave for lunch on Thursday and when Dave asked where I wanted to go I quickly blurted out “Maddios!” This salad is a new favorite for me! Hooray for yummy food and middle of the week lunch dates with my man!

The “It” Scarf

Free People Scarf

I’m pretty sure this Free People scarf is thee accessory to have for the winter months. It is so soft and it feels like being wrapped up in a warm blanket. I have the ‘sand’ color and it is so beautiful (seriously matches all the things) and I’ve got my eye on the army green color. I think that green is so so gorgeous. The fringe on it adds a fun boho vibe and even though the price for the scarf is a bit steep (in my opinion), it is worth it if you love a good scarf. During the winters in NYC, I wore a scarf I feel like in the cold months, accessorizing is difficult because you’re all bundled up, so things like scarves/beanies/gloves replace jewelry that gets easily hidden by all the layers.

I also think this scarf would make for a great Christmas gift! Speaking of gift giving – I’m brainstorming some gift guides to put together for the blog! If you’re interested in this, leave a comment below letting me know what kind of gift guide you would enjoy (I.e gifts under $50, gifts for the fitness freak, gifts for the fashionista, gifts for the guys, etc). 🎁🎁🎁

Your turn! Tell me what you’re loving lately! Any must-try products/food you want to share? When is your Christmas tree going up? Is it already up? (If it is then we should totally be friends. Unless it is still up from last year…then maybe not…)

I hope you have a great weekend with the people you love the most! Thanks for reading CnC this week. 🙂

Friday Favorites

Happy Fri-YAY! I’m typing this post up way too late because I tried to get a jump start on packing tonight so in the morning (when this post is published) we can hit the road at a decent time. (A decent time for the Andrews’ family is noon, by the way.)

I’m keeping this post short, but I didn’t want to miss out on sharing some favorite things from this week! Feel free to chime in below in the comments and share some things that you are loving lately!

Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice-Cream

Ugh. I love this ice-cream so dang much, but my jeans hate it. Truth be told, I haven’t really been loving ice-cream lately. Dave has been buying it and eating it and 9 times out of 10 I pass on even taking a bite. It just doesn’t call to me like it used to…I gravitate to all the baked goods lately….or anything smothered in Nutella. BUT, this ice-cream miraculously landed in my grocery cart 2 weeks ago at Publix and I can’t stop eating it. I’ve served it up over warm brownies and again over a pumpkin cupcake and I suggest you do the same. If you’re a pumpkin fanatic, you have to try this! The graham cracker swirl takes it to a new level.

New Nail Polish

This is one of those really simple things in life that makes me really happy. I get a manicure maybe 3 times a year (maybe). It’s something I love doing so much, but now that I’m a mom it isn’t high on my priority list. But since I love looking down and seeing freshly painted nails, I thought, “Why not just buy some new polish and paint my nails myself sometimes?!” I bought a light pink color by Essie and then this gray color called “Now & Zen” because I’m all about neutrals. I’ve already painted my nails this week and I truly do feel more put together (even if it does look like a 5 year old painted my nails).

Nars Lipstick – Raquel

Nars Lipstick

I’m 99% sure I’ve mentioned this one on the blog before, but I’m turning into my mother and I can’t remember what I’ve told you and what I haven’t. I blame my children (Mom, if you’re reading this, I’m sure you blame me too). Anyways, this Nars lipstick in the shade Raquel got pushed to the back of my lipstick line-up and I’m not sure why. I busted it back out this week and I forgot just how pretty this shade is! It’s a nude with a very subtle pink tone and it’s such a great every-day shade. I mean, not that I wear lipstick everyday. Somedays it’s all I can do to brush my teeth. Oh, and if you’re looking for a lipliner to pair it with I’m loyal to Mac’s lip pencil (I love the shades spice, stripdown and whirl because they seem to blend well with a lot of my lipstick colors. I keep stripdown in my purse because it goes with everything. Spice is a bit darker, which is good if you want a slightly more dramatic look.)

And that’s a wrap! See you on Monday, with what will hopefully be a super positive race-recap! 🙂 13.1 miles is sounding pretty far right about now, but I’m feeling a lot better than I was earlier in the week so I’m optimistic and excited!

Oh, P.S.

Nordstroms is having their fall clearance sale right now and a lot of great things are marked down up to 40% off. I can’t justify buying 1 more coat (I stocked up on them while we were living in NYC), but oh my gosh! If I could, I would buy this one while it was on sale! I wanted it last year and didn’t take the plunge and get it and I wish I would have and now that it’s on sale it is calling to me again…but, now we live in Georgia, which I’m starting to think is the land of perpetual summer.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! As soon as I hit publish on this post, I’m throwing a few more things in my suitcase (because I wouldn’t want to get the reputation of being a light packer) and running a few quick errands before heading out of town.

On Monday afternoon I walked into our office during nap time to do some work on my computer and I found a note that said, “Pack your bags for an adventure! We are going to the mountains of North Carolina to be leaf lookers this weekend!”

I’m glad my husband knows me well enough to know that I need 5 days to pack for a 2 day trip. I knew we had plans to make a day trip to the mountains this weekend, but I was completely surprised to learn that Dave had secretly rented us a mountain cabin for the entire weekend. To say that I’m thrilled for a weekend away with my little family is a huge understatement. We’ve got our plaid shirts, lots of books and our hiking clothes packed! I also grabbed a few new movies in hopes of having a special movie night with Atlas after Andi Rose goes to bed at night. That sweet surprise from my man was – without a doubt – my favorite thing from the week!

But, before I check out for the weekend I wanted to share a few other things that I’m loving lately!

Olly Undeniable Beauty Gummies

After I briefly mentioned purchasing these Olly Undeniable Beauty gummies in a previous post I had several people reach out and ask me if I would write a review on them. I figured I could share my opinions on the gummies now, since I just finished my second container of them (I’ve been taking them for 2 months). Here’s my personal thoughts on them:

  • Hair: I’ve noticed that my hair does seem to be growing faster and I think my eyelashes are actually a little longer too, although that could be because of the neulash that I use. My hair feels healthier than normal, and while that could be related to a few different factors, I’m still chalking these up to a win in that department.
  • Skin: I didn’t see any difference in my skin. If anything, the last month my face has had significantly more breakouts than usual (whoever said your face won’t breakout when you’re an adult is a LIAR!). I actually started to wonder if these gummies were the cause of my face breaking out (because of the borage oil in them?), but I liked the results I was seeing in my hair so I just kept on taking them. I sort of doubt the gummies were to blame for all my breakouts – it’s been a stressful few weeks around here so that normally jacks up my face. But, I’m still calling shenanigans on this product helping the skin.
  • Nails: I did see an improvement in my nails…but then I went and got a gel manicure. That weakened my nails some, but now they are getting stronger again and growing super fast, which I actually find annoying because I don’t like having long nails (I’m paranoid about scratching my babies). So, giving these a thumbs up in the nail strengthening category!

Will I buy them again? Probably.

Dyson Animal Cord Free Vacuum

I don’t even care if you judge me for this one, but I love this thing so much I want to shout it from the rooftops! Oh.Em.Gee! You guys, I vacuum I mean, I don’t vacuum the entire house every single day, but I have to vacuum something up every single day (compliments of my children and dogs). Usually it is a mess from Andi Rose. (Her new thing is that she likes getting in our spice cabinet and opening the spice lids when I’m not looking and pouring them on the floor. It’s real cute.) Anyways, I loved our old vacuum, but getting it out and plugging in the cord was kind of a pain (first world problems), especially since I wasn’t always vacuuming a big spot – I was just sucking up the lemon pepper Andi Rose poured out. But then this cord free vacuum came into my life and the heavens parted and the angels sang. This thing is the jam for cleaning up quick messes or vacuuming stairs. And it is powerful! So powerful, in fact, that I usually use it over our bigger vacuum to vacuum the whole house when I do decide to do that big job (which is about 2 or 3 times a week if you’re wondering).

Elm Music

I’ve been listening to this album a lot throughout this week and it is encouraging, convicting and challenging my heart. Brittany, the girl who wrote the album, is actually a personal friend of mine and she is truly remarkable. Just over a year ago, Brittany tragically and unexpectedly lost her husband. He passed away at 30 years old and left behind Brittany and their 3 boys, ages 3 and under (their youngest son and Andi Rose actually share a birthday). When I try and put myself in Brittany’s shoes, I just can’t help but think I would come apart at the seams. I don’t know how I would function if I lost Dave tomorrow. But Brittany is walking through this unimaginable pain with such grace, strength and faith that she is inspiring all those who know her, and even those who don’t personally know her. Brittany wrote this album with her brother over the course of this last year and the songs are nothing short of powerful – especially when you know that they have all been written from the valley of the shadow of death. If you want to be encouraged, I recommend downloading the album! Brittany is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside and I know you’ll be blessed by the lyrics to her songs.

And that’s a wrap for this week, friends! I hope you have a lovely weekend! 🙂

P.S. I have some new favorites in the make-up department, but I wasn’t sure if I burned you guys out recently talking about make-up? It would be super helpful if you enjoy reading this blog if you could take a quick minute to leave a little comment or shoot me an e-mail letting me know what you would like to see more of on this page. 🙂
