Foods You Can’t Live Without
Lunch today was worth documenting.
Not because it was so good (although it was), but because it actually happened…and it wasn’t a pretzel smothered in chocolate (that was breakfast).
Today I enjoyed an apple with a side of mashed sweet potatoes. It was lacking some protein, but I’m making progress. No lunch > Halloween candy > Fruits and Veggies > Tomorrow, a 5 course meal.
The sweet potatoes were delicious. I mixed in some pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, mascarpone cheese and enough brown sugar and butter to make Paula Deen blush.
I ate while holding Atlas in between doing 4 loads of laundry, vacuuming and walking the dogs. Oh, the life of a mom.
But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I swear, I fall more in love with that little chunky monkey every day. When he flashes a big toothless grin at me, I think “Oh Lord…I hope Dave knows what he got himself into with me because I want a ton of babies. Like at least 3 more!”
…and then Atlas cries for 45 minutes straight and I think, “Nah, we’re good with the 1. Two tops.”
Foods You Can’t Live Without
We receive a lot of packages in the mail (online shopping is a lifesaver when you have a newborn), but one package in particular this week had Dave grinning from ear to ear…
Yes. Your eyes do not deceive you. That would be 8 packages of Birthday Cake Oreos. Gosh, I love that man.
My husband, who doesn’t even like desserts, ordered a case of his favorite Oreos. This guy can resist warm cookies straight from the oven and he turns his nose up to brownie batter, but he almost moved us out of NYC when he couldn’t find his Birthday Cake Oreos. So, being the problem solver that he is (1 of the MANY reasons I married him) he ordered a case of Oreos to last him a looong time…or a week (I’ve been known to eat a sleeve or 2).
Since we moved to the Big Apple, we’ve had access to some incredible food. However, some of our favorite food items have been impossible to find here (mainly sauces). After living in NYC about a month, we decided to order those special items that we just couldn’t live without, but couldn’t find here. On the list…
- Franks Buffalo Sauce (I put it in eggs, in pasta, on chicken, on pizza…basically on anything that isn’t chocolate)
- Kraft Light Asian Toasted Sesame Anything Dressing (I roast peppers in this at least once a week)
- Kraft Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing (Love it on brussels sprouts or salad)
- Terry Ho’s Yum Yum Sauce (a.k.a shrimp sauce)
I can’t decide if this is sad or resourceful. But so many of our ‘staple’ meals were lacking without these sauces.
Other food items I miss from Florida…
- Anything and Everything from the Publix Bakery
- My mom’s cookin’
Now, you tell me. What foods could you not live without?
Now that we’re in NYC, I think I’m going to have a tough time adjusting to living in a city where I can’t have warm cookies delivered at 10pm. There are several restaurant items here that we love that I know I won’t be able to get when we move. And I’m now obsessed with several products from Trader Joe’s. When we leave NYC, we will have to pick a new hometown with a Trader Joe’s. Obviously. Priorities.
