Friday Faves

Hello hello and happy Friday! I was MIA on Thursday because my babies were sick. We took Atlas to the zoo on Wednesday for his birthday and while we were there I noticed Andi Rose was a bit ‘off’ and she felt warm. By the time we got home and I took her temperature she had a fever of 102 and was clearly sick. Thankfully, she slept well and woke up Thursday morning in good spirits. However, Atlas woke up sick on Thursday morning and was projectile vomiting…so needless to say, I never got a chance to sit down and blog…or sit down at all, really. I’m typing this post up on Thursday night and I can barely hold my eyes open and I’m praying we all go into the weekend healthy.

I’m also praying for all my friends and family in Florida. Jacksonville, Fl will always be home for me since that is where I was born & raised so both the location & the people there have a special place in my heart.  Dave & I have been glued to the weather channel all evening watching the story of Hurricane Matthew unfold. I like to keep Friday’s post pretty lighthearted by sharing some things I’m loving, but I couldn’t publish this post without letting all my friends in Florida know that they are in my thoughts and prayers. I’m hoping the weathermen are all wrong and Hurricane Matthew isn’t as damaging as they are anticipating. I hope most of you have evacuated and are someplace safe and dry and for those who have decided to ride it out, I am praying God’s protection over you. If you think about it, pray for my mom and sister. They are riding the storm out and I’m so nervous for them.

And now on a lighter note, let’s chat about some fun things and please feel free to chime in by commenting below. 🙂

Oribe Shampoo & Conditioner

I recently got this shampoo and conditioner and I am loving it! I’m normally pretty loyal to Kerastase products, but I’m a huge fan of this new stuff, particularly the conditioner. It makes my hair so soft and it smells like perfume. I noticed a difference in my hair before I ever even got out of the shower because my hair felt so smooth after using the conditioner. Granted, I had been out of conditioner for several days so I’m sure that had something to do with it. I was like, “Oh my gosh! I can actually run my fingers through my hair!” This is a total splurge, but if you’re a hair guru, give this brand a try! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Birthday Love for Atlas

I was overwhelmed this week by how many of our friends and family sent birthday presents and cards to Atlas. So many of the people we love the most in this life went out of their way to make sure our boy felt loved and it was such a blessing to my mama heart and Atlas was just over the moon when he woke up and saw our dining room table full of presents for him. (Most of our friends and family sent gifts via Amazon and then I opened them and wrapped them – God bless Amazon Prime, right? Like how did we do life before Amazon Prime?) We have a lot of thoughtful friends and family and I’m so grateful for each person who made Atlas feel so special this week. I loved watching him light up all week long!

Side note: I told him this year that the birthday fairy came to visit him. When he woke up on his birthday he had 30 balloons in his room and streamers hanging from his door. He was jumping up and down and completely giddy. Then I told him that each present was delivered by the birthday fairy on behalf of somebody. So like when my sister’s gift arrived for him I told him the birthday fairy picked up the present from my sister and dropped it off for him. His mind was blown. I love this age with him. Except those 3 year old meltdowns – those are a force to be reckoned with, I tell ya. Phew.

The Best Bra

Okay, so this one is a little weird and maybe TMI but I’m going for it and sharing it anyways. Last year for Christmas my sister got me this Anemone bra and I was like, “That’s kind of a weird gift” but she swore by it and was like, “It’s the BEST and you have to try it!” My sister doesn’t buy bad gifts so I knew it had to be good. However, I was still nursing Andi Rose so I didn’t wear it for months because I was in nursing bra’s and then one day I was like, “Wait. Why am I wearing this nursing bra? I haven’t nursed Andi Rose in weeks. This is not okay.” I pulled out the bra my sister gave me and I basically haven’t taken it off since. Okay, well that’s not totally true. I wash it and I’ve purchased 5 more because they are amazing! They are super comfortable, flattering and they provide great coverage (for reference my bra size is around a 32 C-ish). They are also super cheap for bras. I wouldn’t recommend this bra if you need a lot of support, but if your bra size is similar to mine then I would give it a try! They come in a million colors and a few different styles so if you’re in the market for some new bras, check out this brand.

Nancy Tillman Books

Nancy Tillman Books

Oh my gosh. You guys! These books! I know I’ve mentioned “On the Night You Were Born” on the blog before but we recently got a few more books by Nancy Tillman for our kids and I can hardly read them without crying. They are the sweetest books and I have so enjoyed reading them with Atlas and Andi Rose at night before bed. Both my kids love the book “I’d Know you Anywhere, My Love” because they love all the animals and we make animal noises at each page, which they think is hilarious. But the words – oh, the words! They are so precious. I personally love the book, “You’re here for a Reason” & I think every mama needs these 2 books on her child’s bookshelf. They are such precious reads and now I’m on a mission to collect all of Nancy’s books!

Boo Bag

One of our neighbors dropped a “Boo Bag” off at our doorstep this week and it was such a sweet treat and fun surprise. They filled it with candy and little toys and they even included an outfit for Boo Boo Bear (Atlas’ beloved teddy bear). It totally made Atlas’ day and it brought a smile to my face too. And then we got to pass on the love and make 2 Boo Bags for 2 neighbors. It was such a fun and creative thing to do and I thought I would share it here in case any of you wanted to take the idea and spread it around your ‘hood! 🙂

And that’s a wrap for this week! See you party people on Monday!

  1. Loved this post! I’d love to know where to get the boo bags. There are kids in my neighborhood I’d like to do this for them. I can’t wait to read the books you recommended. May recommend them to the teachers who teach younger kids at my school. Keep on blogging, love it!

    • You make the Boo Bags yourself. I got cute little bags that looked like pumpkins at Target in the $1 section. But you can get print the Boo Bag Directions from this website…

So, you buy your own bag and fill it with whatever you want (candy/glow-sticks/puzzles/games/stickers/etc) and then inside the boo bag you place the printed instructions from the website above so then the neighbor knows to keep the chain going and make a boo bag for someone else in the neighborhood and then they can place the “we’ve been boo’d sticker” on their door or in their window. 🙂
