Friday Favorites

I know Friday is half way over, but I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to link up for a Friday Favorite’s post because…well…they are one of my favorites. 🙂

I’m a mom, so you can’t expect me to be on time for anything until 2033. This includes appointments, blog posts, responding to e-mails, airport arrivals, etc. I will be late until Atlas is capable of feeding, changing and taking care of himself (& let’s face it – we probably can’t expect those things to happen any time in the next 2 decades – I think we all know a grown man or 2 who still isn’t fully capable of those things).

Anyways, better late than never. Here are a few of the things that I’m lovin’ this week…

1. My vitamins.

ImageI have been fighting something fierce (think sore throat, aches, cough, etc) since Tuesday and I think the only reason it hasn’t taken me totally down is because I’ve been doubling up on my vitamins. I think my body is having a tough time handling Polar Vortexes + public transportation (sucky combo), but I think Juice Plus is keeping me from going down for the count.

2. Group texts with my mom and sisters.

IMG_4245Even though we all live in different states, it is so nice to chat with them every day. Our ongoing group texts encourage me and keep me laughing on days when I’m stuck inside due to cold temperatures and cold viruses.

3. Brotherly love.

Image 3Marley isn’t too interested in Atlas most days, but I think in just a few short months those 2 are going to be the best of friends.

4. These Powerberries are the jam.

Image 1Trader Joe’s does it again. And it is official – I like all things dark chocolate, which sort of makes me feel like an adult because only adults like things like dark chocolate and red wine. Also, I just started to enjoy lemon things this past year and that made me feel like I was getting old. I used to think only grandma’s enjoyed things like lemon bread when I was a kid…but now I crave lemon bread from time to time and I can’t help but think that is a sign that I’m getting old. ←There’s your totally random, useless piece of information of the day.

5. Home cooked meals and snacks!

Image 4I’m going to toot my own horn for a second. I only ordered food ONCE this week (the truffles from momfukus – not even sorry about that though). That may not sound like a big deal, but I assure you it is. I was ordering food a lot over the last several weeks because in NYC that is just what you do. You have cookies delivered at 9pm and smoothies delivered at 9am. It’s the norm. But it is bad for your bank account and skinny jeans. So, I decided to start making all our meals and snacks this week and it was a success! I almost caved today and ordered soft serve ice cream from momofukus but I stayed strong, thanks to Dave’s encouragement (see above screen shot of our texts). I’m confident if I ordered oatmeal cream pie soft serve, that would make the Friday Favorite’s list next week though.

Cooking meals and baking up my own snacks really isn’t bad. I enjoy knowing exactly what I’m putting into my body. So I say, “Holla for home cooked meals!”

No telling how many readers I just lost due to the above statement. #dorkaward.

6. This laugh. It is my all time favorite.

Other favorites include scrambled eggs with buffalo sauce and ketchup (I tried taking a photo of this – it is just too ugly to share, but too delicious to keep to myself), this series (if you have 20 minutes, watch part 4), 40 degree temps (oh yes, that is happening in NYC this weekend) and this shaving cream (random, but I’m really loving it).

Head on over to Katie’s blog to check out her favorites from the week! Her posts always make me smile! 🙂

And tell me all about your Friday Favorites in the comments below!

Happy Friday, friends!

  1. I’m sorry you’ve been feeling kinda sick. YUCK. I hate that about the winter times & weather. At least you’ve got it down to an art with those vitamins!

Amen to being late everywhere….I’ve got to plan like an extra hour in advance to be anywhere even close to on time. hah!

    • Yep…when we HAVE to be somewhere on time my thought process goes something like this, “Okay…we have to be there by 2pm, so leave at 1:30, so Atlas will need to eat at 1…so we need to start getting ready at 7am.”

  2. How do they deliver soft serve? Wouldn’t it melt? And I continue to absolutely LOVE the pics of Atlas with his brothers – heart melting. And that laugh. Enjoy the 40 degree temps. I wish I could be there to enjoy them with you!!

    • It is one of the miracles of NYC, Katie…they deliver ice cream and it is perfectly edible when it arrives at your door. You do have to order a pint usually to meet the minimum order, but obviously that is never an issue for me. haha

  3. Holla for some home-cooked meals is RIGHT! I’ve been eating out way too often… It’s so freakin’ expensive!!

Oh, that laugh. Why are baby laughs so sweet? I can barely even handle it.

    Feel better <3.

  4. OK, so I’m coming to NYC next weekend to surprise my best friend, and I can’t handle the fact that I have NEVER been to Momofuku!! Need to change this!!

Nice work on the homemade meals! You are like superwoman!

    • Omg – definitely hit up Momofukus. Try the truffles and their soft serve ice cream…and the corn cookie…actually, just try it all. You won’t regret it!

My mom is coming up to NYC next weekend to watch Atlas so Dave & I can go out. Maybe we will run into you!

      • Aww what a sweet treat! Good for you guys! I have no idea what my plans are (since the person hosting me doesn’t know I’m coming yet mwuahaha) but if I know anything about us, I know we’ll be out for a long run at some point if the weather permits! Where in the city do you guys live? I’ll be staying with my friends in the Financial District. I need to go add you on Facebook before this comment gets too long.. (too late)
