TGIF! Did any of you guys watch the TGIF TV shows on ABC back in the day? I remember being in elementary school and every Friday night my mom would order us a pizza and make ice-cream sundaes or cookies and we would sit in her bed and eat and watch the whole TGIF line-up. It always seemed like the biggest treat to me and I looked forward to it all week. My favorite Friday night shows included Full House, Step by Step and Boy Meets World. Those simple nights in eventually became some of my favorite childhood memories. Oh, and going to Blockbuster with my mom and spending FOR-ever picking out a movie to watch over the weekend. I can’t wait to make memories like that with Atlas! Only, I’m not sure where we will find a Blockbuster…
And with that rabbit trail behind us, let’s move right along to Friday Favorites…
1. Wafels and Dinges Food Truck
Oh.Em.Gee! We’ve eaten some good food in NYC ya’ll, but nothing compares to what we got from this food truck. Nothing! Last weekend Dave & I decided to stop at the local food truck by Lincoln Center while we were out shopping. Every time we walk by the truck I comment on how ‘freaking incredible’ (←my exact words) the food smells so when Dave suggested we try it last weekend I about knocked 2 small children over racing to get my spot in line. Word on the street is Trader Joes got their Spekuloos cookie butter idea from the Wafels and Dinges food trucks. If you’re ever in NYC, do what you must to get down to Lincoln Center and get a belgian waffle ice cream sandwich. They have Spekuloos ice cream. Yes, cookie butter ice cream. I can’t even take it. I’m still losing my mind over it. Dave & I finished our Belgian treats in about 2 minutes and stood in front of the truck debating whether or not we should get back in line and place another order. Dead serious. We’ve got plans to go Sunday after Dave’s half marathon and I’m so excited I can hardly stand it.
2. TJ’s Champagne Pear Vinaigrette Dressing
And because I’m planning on eating my body weight in stuff from a food truck over the weekend, I’m loading up on fruits and veggies in the form of salads now. I picked up this dressing last week and it is almost gone! It has quickly become 1 of my favorite dressings and I bought it on a whim.
*Funny story* Dave mentioned a few weeks ago that he likes pears, which was surprising because Dave doesn’t eat a lot of fruit. I was so excited at his mention of this that I decided I was going to stock up on the fruit so he had a healthy snack to take to work. Only, I came home with a ginormous bag of peaches. Because peaches and pears are similar, you know? He hates peaches and I don’t really love them that much and after pureeing the crap out of them, turns out Atlas doesn’t like them either. Fail. I redeemed myself by buying actual pears and this dressing last week though.
4. Coconut Oil
I hate coconut so I think I’m one of the few people not on the ‘coconut oil is the best thing for everything’ bandwagon. Dave ordered this coconut oil a few weeks ago because he wanted to try oil pulling and because I couldn’t let my husband be trendier than me, I begrudgingly hopped on the hippie bandwagon and swished some of the stuff around in my mouth. I’ve done the oil pulling thing a few times but so far I don’t have an opinion on it one way or the other. However, I read on the coconut oil package that you can use it as a hair mask so I gave that a whirl. Wow. Love it. I actually put it in my hair before bed and sleep in it and then wash it out the next day and my hair is so soft. Like a horse’s mane. I don’t know if I’m totally on the coconut oil bandwagon, but as far as hair masks go, this is one of the best I’ve tried. Anybody out there use it on their skin? Does it make your skin super greasy?
5. Links I’m loving.
And just in case this post wasn’t wordy enough for you, here are some links I loved this week…
- Social Media – It Will Always Be There – Annette writes about a topic that I’m passionate about – unplugging from social media and actually being present in your own life! Love.
- I want to make these sprinkle cake bars – because I obviously didn’t eat enough junk food this week. Thanks, Katie.
- This pesto spaghetti squash casserole – Becky had me at ‘brussels sprouts.’
- Kate wrote a beautiful letter to her future self. I want her to write a letter to me.
And that’s a wrap! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Dave will be chatting with you guys on Monday about his NYC half marathon! CnC’s first guest post from Mr. CnC himself. Fun stuff!
