Holly Jolly Christmas
Christmas 2012 was filled with sweet family time and one-too-many cookies.
I woke up around 8:30 on Christmas morning, which was a gift in itself because I rarely sleep past 7, and made eggs and smoothies for breakfast. Once we finished eating, Dave & I gathered around the tree to open presents. Marley wanted to open every single present…
And Ob took the first toy Marley opened and ran to hide and play with it. After exchanging our gifts, Dave retreated to the couch (he is recovering from a hurt back) and I headed outside to complete this at home workout. I had no intentions of working out, but I had some time to kill before heading to my mom’s and I had load of laundry I wanted to finish. By the way, you know you’re an adult when you’re doing laundry on Christmas. Blah.
After showering and packing up the car with gifts and clothes, we headed to my mom’s house around lunchtime to keep celebrating with my family. Within 2 minutes of walking in the door I grabbed a cookie…
And I basically continued to grab a cookie every 2 minutes until those bad boys were gone. In between those 2 minute intervals, we exchanged gifts with my mom, sister, brother-in-law and nephew.
Shortly after we finished our gift exchange, the rest of my family arrived and it was time for lunch! I piled my plate with broccoli casserole, stuffing, mac-n-cheese, green beans and sweet potato casserole. I know everyone thinks their mom is the best cook, but they’re all lying because my mom really is the best cook (unless your mom is Paula Deen, then you’re probably telling the truth). Our Christmas meal might be my favorite meal of the entire year. After cleaning my plate, I headed outside for a game of Jackpot with some of the guys in the family.
I had the best time playing with my nephew, Pierce. We were all sweaty by the time we finished and ready for round 2 of eating when we came inside. After eating dessert, the rest of my family went home and Pierce and Marley were sad to say their goodbyes.
We spent the rest of the evening curled up on the couch watching the Grinch with my mom.
It truly was a great day filled with love and laughter. Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I hope you spent yesterday with those you love and cherish most!
I spent today taking down Christmas decor and cleaning. Also another sign that you’re an adult, by the way.
It no longer looks like Christmas in this house, but that’s okay with me. I’m still kind of suffering from the post-Christmas-blues, but I’m actually really excited for 2013 and the personal goals I’m setting.
And on that note, it is lights out for me tonight. I have to go back to work tomorrow so I have to be up bright and early. And there’s yet another sign that you’re an adult…or are these just signs that I’m Type A and boring? That’s a rhetorical question, just so we’re clear.
