Pennsylvania for Christmas
Hello from Pennsylvania!
and 8 hours later we were on the road heading to PA. Packing for a week long vacation in a cold climate with a baby, 2 dogs and Christmas presents is no small task. Our morning got off to a stressful start due to problems with our rental car. Dave’s license expired, which he realized after he got to the rental dealership so he had to come back home and get me so that I could rent the car. Luckily, we got it all straightened out and after loading up the car it was time to make the 5 hour drive to Dave’s family’s house. I WISH we would have had someone on the street snap a photo of our family and luggage. We had SO much stuff. Baby bathtubs. Wrapping paper. Dog food. Diapers. Christmas gifts. Ginormous suitcases. It was ridiculous.
Once we got into the car, things didn’t get too much better for us.
The above photo is misleading. Judging by the above photo, you probably think Atlas loved the car ride. And he did…for about 2 hours. But the trip was 5 hours. I’m still trying to block 3 hours of the trip from my memory because Atlas screamed so loud.
Marley had it good though riding shotgun with Dave.
Dave’s family lives in a state park (I’ve blogged about our trips to his home before) and despite the stressful trip, it feels good to be out of NYC and in the woods.
After a good night’s sleep on Saturday (Atlas had a sleep PR. He slept straight from 11pm – 10am), we woke up Sunday feeling refreshed and ready to enjoy our Christmas vacation!
We headed into ‘town’ (I love when people say that) to get groceries for the week. Obscene amounts of sugar, cream cheese and butter were purchased because lots of baking is going down this week.
The rest of Sunday was spent enjoying family time. I love that Atlas is getting to spend time with his GREAT grandmother! I think that is such a sweet blessing and it makes my heart happy to see them together.
I’m pretty sure Atlas is loving all the attention he’s getting from his great grandmother and grandmother.
Dave’s mom spent several hours bouncing Atlas around last night while I made dinner. I think we all enjoyed it. My back got a break from holding him. Dave’s mom got to love on him and Atlas got to enjoy looking at someone besides me. Win all around!
Ob is being super protective of Atlas, as you can tell by the above photo. She follows whoever is holding him around like she’s babysitting. She even naps by him. Such a good big sister.
Marley on the other hand hasn’t left the kitchen.
He gets treats from everyone here. I’m not sure we will be able to get him in the car to go home at the end of the week.
This morning we woke up and went for a beautiful hike. The dogs absolutely loved being off leash. Ob never stopped moving. She was pretty much in a constant sprint for the duration of our hike.
It has been good for my soul to be out of the hustle and bustle of NYC for a little while and in the woods.
I’m not sure it has been good for my diet though…
This week’s agenda includes more hikes, more family time and more food! Oh, and lots of cuddle time with this little ham…
I can’t believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve! Where in the world did the year go?
