Sunshine Award

Everyday should start with burpees! Said no human being ever.

This morning started nice and early with this at home workout, which was filled with burpees, jump squats, mountain climbers and more. Burpees, jump squats and mountain climbers, oh my! (←That may be the cheesiest thing I’ve said on the blog to date) It was hot and humid in Florida this morning so I was sweating by the end of the first round and drenched by the end of round 3. I haven’t done this workout in a while and I forgot just how tough it is. Plyometric moves are no joke. My booty and shoulders are already sore tonight.

After my workout, I spent 20 minutes searching the house for bobby pins. I lose bobby pins on the regular. No clue where they go. I assume they go to the same place my missing socks go. However, on Sunday I purchased a brand new pack of bobby pins. So, I was freaking out today when I couldn’t find the pack I literally JUST bought. Seriously – how does that happen? I didn’t even get to use them and lose them. Long story short – I never found them and I ended up going into work with wet hair.

After the great bobby pin search of 2013, a day at work and a 3 mile walk with the dogs it was time for dinner. Tonight’s dinner featured a rockin’ side dish!

I steamed some broccoli before cooking 1 cup of orzo according to the package directions. Then, I mixed the broccoli and orzo together in a pot (this is all happening in the same pot, just so you know. I hate dishes. Obviously, the above photo was clearly snapped on a paper plate.) over medium heat. I added spinach, pesto, sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese, cheddar cheese and parmesan cheese and let all of that melt together for about 3 minutes before serving it up. It was surprisingly delicious and it had potential to be very healthy…until I went all crazy with the cheese. I can’t say I regret that decision though.

Now to spread some vitamin D around…

1. Who is your favorite philosopher?

So here’s the deal – I could say Aristotle or Socrates or Plato, but the reality is this: I haven’t thought about those guys since my freshmen year of college and I barely thought about them then. I’m not a deep thinker. I watch Ob chase the light from a laser pin multiple times each week and laugh just as hard each time. That’s the brain power I’m workin’ with, folks.

2. What is your favorite number?

6. My birthday is April 6 and for some reason I always chose to be number 6 during volleyball and cross country.

3. What is your favorite animal? 

Ob & Marley. But please don’t tell them they’re animals.

I really melt over any baby animal, assuming it isn’t a reptile.

4. What are your Facebook and Twitter? 

I actually don’t have a Facebook for the ole’ blog, but my personal Facebook page is under the name Ashley Marie. We can totally be friends, if you want to make it official. I don’t have a Twitter. *I’ll give you a minute to process that. *  I just don’t understand it. Feel free to enlighten me though. 

5. What is your favorite time of day? 

The time spent at home…whether that be playing with Ob & Marley, making dinner, perusing blogs, sitting on the couch chatting with Dave…I just love any time spent at home. As far as morning vs. night, I used to love mornings but lately I wake up stressed about work, so I am tending to enjoy my evenings more.

6. What is your favorite holiday?

Easy one! Christmas.

7. What is your favorite physical activity?

Running and hiking.

8. What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink?

Water. I’ve got to hydrate so I can enjoy that wine.

9. What is your favorite flower?

Hydrangeas are my favorite.

10. What is your passion? 

I’m passionate about helping people live healthy well-balanced lives.

I’m also passionate about my family, my dog, running, writing, blogging, traveling and cupcakes.

  2. I cringed (not even sort of, a total full on anti physical reaction) to hearing jumping lunges, burpees, and mountain climbers in the same sentence. I HATE them. I do them but they are still the worst things ever and make me feel like a fake athlete because no matter what they ALWAYS win. Lame. Thanks for the nomination!!!

      And you’re right – no matter how in shape I think I am, burpees always seem to put me in my place real quick and I finish the workout thinking, “Yeah, I still have a long way to go.” haha

    Philosophy. Meh. That’s all I’ll say about that.

    My least fav exercise (aside from spelling the word “exercise” — seriously, why I needed spell check for that is beyond me) are tuck jumps– they hurt my legs so bad. Burpees suck too.

  4. Least favorite hmmm…just push ups.
    For the same reason as above commenter–they make me feel weak, and I hate them for that.
    The push-up is an a-hole.

    Now…on to us. An award? (Blushing). This relationship of ours is moving fast. And I like it 😉 😉

    I hope no one checks out my blog looking for workout inspiration though, it is only my online baby book (yawn-to anyone outside my immediate family).

    Oh, and the tank top workout on Tuesday REALLY sucked when last night’s bootcamp was dedicated to arms. Love it.

  5. aw thx for the nomination girl!! ..i’ll prob post my answers late next week – i spent like a million years working on today’s article to get it ready in time for the super bowl, so my brain can barely think straight lol 🙂 ..haha and i loved the burpees pic – when i read that first line “every day should start with burpees” i literally scrunched up my face and was starting to say “whaaattt?” until i got through the second line and burst out laughing lol 🙂
