Things I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You
I heard on the Today Show this week that a recent study found moms to have only 17 minutes of “me time” each day. According to the study, “me time” is time spent doing something you want to do for yourself, whether that be painting your nails, watching TV, reading, taking a nap, etc. It doesn’t include time spent doing things like laundry, cooking, cleaning, feeding the baby, etc. As a new mom, I just have to ask…Who are these moms that get 17 minutes a day and can they please write a book on how they do it? Preferably a book that can be read in 17 minutes? I’m pretty sure I get 2 minutes of ‘me time’ a day and I use those 2 minutes to pee.
I’ve been MIA this week because Atlas hasn’t been feeling the whole nap thing, which means ‘me time’ (aka blogging time) hasn’t happened. That’s okay though. Atlas time > Me time.
First – did you guys know Anthropology is now selling athletic gear? Like adorable, ruffley (←made-up word), Lululemon style clothes that I
want need in my closet? Maybe I’m late to hop on this train, but I about lost my marbles when I discovered this. This jacket? These leggings? And these? GAH! Cannot take it! Becky – you KNOW you want to treat yourself! 😉
Dave and I are doing things a bit different with our finances this year. Our goal for 2014 is to give back more and save more, which means we are spending less. Couple that with the fact that we are now operating on 1 income and I can pretty much kiss my designer workout gear goodbye. I know it is the right decision for us as a family…but man…those leggings…seriously. They tempt me.
We got bombarded with snow again this week.
Dave and I celebrated our 3 year dating anniversary last night.
We celebrated by going on a snowy walk through the park with Atlas and the dogs (#parentlife). Ob & Marley hunted rats (#NYClife), Atlas slept and Dave & I laughed about the memories we’ve made together the last 3 years. I love that we still celebrate our ‘dating anniversary’ and I can’t wait to create more memories with Dave in the years to come. He really is my better half (#cliche-but-true). We put Atlas to bed early and enjoyed a fun evening together cooking, chatting and watching Modern Family (←love that show almost as much as I love Dave).
I bought a ton of produce last weekend and this is all that is left.
This is amazing because more often than not, when I stock up on a lot of vegetables they get put in my crisper drawer and that’s where they go to die. But not this week! This week I’ve eaten almost every piece of produce I purchased and I plan on polishing off what’s left today! And once the above food is gone, I can reward my healthy eating habits from the week by eating this stuff…
As part of a new business venture (more on that later), I’ve been doing a lot of research the last few weeks on the intake of fruits and veggies and how the nutrients impact our bodies. My research led me to buy more produce than normal this last week and I have to say…I feel pretty good after snacking on things like avocados and peppers. Dave has even noticed a difference in his runs this week, busting out a 7:44 pace for 5 miles, which I credit to the added produce with our dinner. But cupcakes will always taste better than broccoli. Period. No way to sugar coat that (#Ilovepuns).
If you are eyeing the cutting board in the above photos, you can find it here. The kind people behind Collections Ect. sent the product to me to try and I absolutely love it. I used it over the weekend to serve some cookies on during the Superbowl and I’ve used it this week to chop veggies on and it is great. I love that it can be used as both a cutting board + a serving tray. I think the stainless steel on it gives it a sophisticated and modern look, which would make it a great housewarming gift for a bachelor. Do guys get housewarming gifts? If they do, I would get them this cutting board. It is durable, functional and easy to store (←critical if you live in NYC). I also thought these tongs, these mixing bowls and this serving dish would make great housewarming gifts. Their products are affordable, making them perfect for shopping on a budget. Check it out!
I went public this week with the fact that I have baby fever. I put it on Facebook, so it is official now. I want another one.
Atlas turned 4 months old this week, so expect a lengthy post about all that soon.
Also worth mentioning from this week are the following workouts from the Nike Training Club App…
- Razor Sharp
- Cardio Burst
Those + a few treadmill runs have made for a decent week of workouts for this mama.
Dave ran 9 miles today as part of his training for the NYC Half. He just texted me with the screen shot of his time and calories burned with a caption that reads, “Bring on the Oreos.” Just another reason why I’m confident we will make it the long haul. #Greatminds.
And with that, my 17 minute timer (a.k.a. Atlas) is going off. So glad I got to spend my ‘me time’ with you cool people! 🙂
Here’s hoping next week is filled with more naps, more blog posts and more veggies and perhaps less hashtags. I think I went a little hashtag crazy in this post…& I’m not even 100% sure I’m using them correctly. #nerd
