Weekend Recap – Enjoying What Matters Most

Last weekend was the first time in what feels like a long time that I stopped to just enjoy life. Between crazy work schedules, holiday travel and sick babies it seems like we have been burning the candle at both ends and living in survival mode. This weekend Dave & I celebrated our ‘dateiversary.’ As in, it has been 5 years since we went on our first date, so things felt a little extra festive around here.

Our weekend kicked off on a high note when I woke up Saturday morning to realize I had slept through the night! I heard Andi babbling in her crib and when I looked at my phone and saw it was 6:30am I jumped out of bed like a kid on Christmas morning. I was all, “DAVE! Wake up! We slept through the night! Can you believe it?! Wake up!”


I nursed Andi and she fell back asleep so I headed to the gym for a 5 mile run. When I came home she was STILL asleep and Atlas was laying in bed with Dave looking for Waldo in his new Where’s Waldo book (I’m telling you – we are obsessed with Waldo). Lazy mornings are the BEST!

Once everyone was awake and ready we headed to brunch downtown and then followed that up with an obligatory anniversary ice cream stop.

Then we strolled the streets while Atlas rode his scooter.




We walked slow with no where in particular to go and it was wonderful. We were home by nap time for a quick rest before heading back out to dinner and then back home to watch the Bachelor (I’m currently team Becca all the way). It was such a refreshing Saturday with my people.

Sunday was spent grocery shopping, relaxing around the house, packing for a quick trip we have on the calendar this week and eating this dip, this black bean salad, these cookies and this pulled pork served on little slider rolls while watching the Super Bowl. Well, Dave watched the Super Bowl. I did some online shopping and watched the Super Bowl halftime show. I wish I could dance half as good as Bruno Mars.

And as far as the stuff we made goes, you can’t properly celebrate the Super Bowl without buffalo chicken dip. I think we all know that, right? I got 9 cookies made from the batch of cookie dough I made. NINE! As in, I ate all the rest of the dough. Well, I did freeze some of it. But I ate most of it. I still kind of hate myself today for the damage I did to that dough. And the black bean salad was a highlight for me and I will definitely be making it again, although neither of my boys really loved it.

Hope you’re having a great week and you enjoyed what matters most to you over the weekend. I spent longer than usual staring at Andi’s face, soaked up Atlas’ giggles during our tickle fights and thoroughly enjoyed dreaming about the future with Dave.

It was plain good for my soul to slow down and just enjoy my family this weekend.


  1. How do you find time/energy/willpower to run AND do strength? I really need both but I feel like one or the other gets dropped. Usually I do 4 bootcamp/strength classes/week and I like to also run 3x (short 3 mile runs only) but more often than not, running doesn’t happen at all. Help!

    • Girl, 4 days of strength/bootcamp + 3 runs a week is awesome! I definitely do NOT run and do strength everyday. It is a special treat when I get to do both in the same day. And sometimes I will take a day off, so the next day I’m more motivated to do a 30 minute strength session followed by a 30 or 40 minute run since the day before my body got rest. And I’m also more inclined to do more running when 1) I have a lot on my mind 2) the kids are being crazy or 3) I’ve been a bottomless pit eating all the cookies! HA! It just so happens that all 3 have been the case the last 2 weeks!

      It sounds like your workout routine is solid though!
