Weekend Recap – Surviving Winter Storm Jonas
On Friday, Dave came home a little earlier than normal and surprised me with an iced white chocolate peppermint mocha from Starbucks. It was the perfect start to the weekend! Starbucks surprises are my favorite surprises these days.
We immediately leashed up Ob & Marley and got the kids ready to go out for a family walk.
On our walk, Dave asked me if we had enough food and water to make it through the weekend and I was like, “Mmm, not really, but that’s okay. I’m hoping to hit up the grocery store tomorrow or first thing Sunday morning.” Dave looked at me like I was crazy and asked if I had checked the weather. I told him I looked earlier in the week and I knew we were expecting some snow but that was the last I heard of it. He laughed and said, “Ashley! We aren’t expecting ‘some snow.’ We are expecting a major blizzard.”
Fast forward to Saturday morning and turns out my husband was right.
I should probably watch the news more. Winter storm Jonas was no joke.
I’ve never seen so much snow in my life! Our neighbors were out of town and it was snowing so hard their dog walker couldn’t make it to their house, so we volunteered to walk their sweet dog, Toby.
Isn’t Toby so cute? We ended up bringing him over to our house to play with Ob & Marley on Saturday since we couldn’t walk the dogs all that far due to the crazy snow and they loved the indoor play date. Atlas was in Heaven with 3 dogs to play with!
Once we returned Toby to his house and got the kids bathed and in bed, it was time for a special winter storm treat.
I picked up this peppermint bark hot chocolate over the holidays, but never opened it. I figured there’s no better time to enjoy hot chocolate than during a snow storm, right? You better believe I burnt the heck out of my tongue on the first sip. That’s probably my biggest regret of the weekend. Why could I not just wait 5 or 10 minutes for it to cool? WHY?
Sunday was spent shoveling snow and taking care of our sick babies (both kids are fighting a cold – Atlas seems to be on the mend, but Andi seems to just be coming down with it – Lord help me). I managed to squeeze in a quick 5 mile treadmill run, but that was about the only ‘fun’ part of Sunday. It seems like 1 (or both) of my kids is up at some point every night and I really don’t think I’ve slept through the night since December. This weekend felt a little hard just because I’m so tired. I’m really hoping the cold bug that has hit our house leaves quickly and good sleep returns to our house soon.
Andi turned 7 months old on Friday though and as tired as I am, there’s still so much joy I’m finding in this season and I realize it is going by so fast.
I could sure use a solid night’s sleep – heck, I would even settle for a great nap…but I wouldn’t trade those babies God gave me for the world! They are my sweetest blessings.
And if you’re reading this and wondering why I took sick children out to play in the snow, I would like to tell you to calm down (Hi, Mom!). 😉 The kids weren’t even out for 10 minutes. Atlas was begging to go see the snow. I initially said no, but Dave was all “Come on, please!” And then Atlas was all, “Please Mommy!” I couldn’t say no to those cute faces. I’m praying everyone is totally healthy by the end of the week so we can get outside & actually play and build a proper snowman! #wintergoals
Hope you stayed warm this weekend! Happy Monday!
