Weirdo Runner (A.K.A. The Author of this Post)
This morning’s run was another good one! The temperatures in Jacksonville are finally dropping a few degrees and my runs this week have been so much more enjoyable. I completed 5 miles this morning, thanks to my new relaxed approach to running, some cool weather, good music and a crazy Vizsla.
I love seeing this sign when I run…
Occasionally, I run from Jacksonville to Jacksonville Beach, and this sign always makes me think, “I’ve run really far. I ran from 1 city to another.” However, the reality is that the sign pictured above is only about 2 miles away from my house. Yes, I’m fully aware…I’m a weird
person runner. I also say things like, “Go-Go-Gadget legs, engage!” during my runs. Out loud. To Ob. And sometimes I sing. Out loud. To Ob. She hates it. I’m sure of it.
I ended up having one of those runs where I fell in love with the sport all over again. I didn’t run incredibly fast (umm…okay, so I never do), but I felt comfortable and relaxed during the entire thing.
I finished up my 5 miles and felt ready to tackle the work day.
I think part of the reason I enjoyed today’s run so much is because I had a jammin’ playlist. *I should probably go ahead and clarify a few things before we go any further. First, I’ve been listening to Christmas music for the last 3 weeks because I’m obsessed. Second, I love boy bands. I’ll never outgrow Hanson. Mmmmbop. And finally, most people would probably agree that I don’t have the best taste in music. But whatever. I like what I like. So, Boom!* When running, I prefer songs that relax me/make me smile/encourage my heart and that’s exactly what this playlist did today.
- Michael Buble’ – Cold December Night
- Zac Brown Band – Chicken Fried
- Lady Antebellum – American Honey
- Billy Currington – Must Be Doin’ Something Right (←baby making music)
- One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful
- Billy Currington – Good Directions (←That’s for you, Janny)
- Michael Buble’ – All I Want For Christmas Is You
- Wicked – Defying Gravity (←Broadway music is the best. Period.)
- Straight No Chaser – This Christmas
- Carrie Underwood – Wasted
- Jimmy Needham – Firefly
- Lee Brice – Hard To Love
- One Republic – Secrets
- Jimmy Needham – Forgiven And Loved
- Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever (Ever Ever) Getting Back Together
I have the Savannah Rock n Roll Half Marathon in 3 weeks and I want to create a good playlist for that race. What do you listen to while you run? Do you listen to anything weird? Do you prefer no music? I personally can’t stand to run and listen to the sound of my own breathing…there is a time and place for heavy breathing and as far as I’m concerned, running isn’t it!
Poor Ob is forced to listen to both my heavy breathing and my singing while we run…
I give her ice cream though, so it all evens out in the end.
