When the Cat’s Away…

I had to leave work early this afternoon to take this little ham to the vet.

Vizsla Vet

I took her to a new vet today because I now live on a different side of town, so I wanted to find a vet that was closer to my new home. I adored her previous vet and may still take her their on occasion, but it is nearly impossible for me to make it to my old side of town during the work week if she needs to get in to see the Dr. Luckily, the vet today was wonderful and he got a kick out of Ob when he walked into the room and found her sitting on a chair waiting to be seen. I assume most dogs sit on the floor? ha

Long-story-short, she is fine. However, she about gave Dave & me a heart attack 2 nights ago when she woke up in the middle of the night gasping for air. It sounded like she was suffocating or wheezing for about 5 minutes before she finally curled up next to me and drifted back to sleep (needless to say, we didn’t fall back to sleep quite so easily). She did the same weird breathing thing this morning and I decided it was time to take her in. The vet showed me this videoΒ and asked if her episode was something similar. I told him it was exactly like that and he laughed and told me it was just a reverse sneeze due to allergies and she was totally fine. But he agreed it would freak the heck out of you if you didn’t know what it was. She also had a cyst looked at on her back, which we will get the results from Saturday but the vet didn’t seem too concerned.

*And that concludes The Ob Show for the day. My apologies to all the non-dog lovers out there who may have just accidentally read through that saga.*

After the vet, we went for a quick 4 mile run before coming home to walk Marley and make dinner.

Dave is out of town, but he will be back tomorrow, which means I’m living it up tonight. You know what the say; when the cat’s away the mice will play. πŸ˜‰ Dave is going to read that and laugh out loud. I know it. He knows me too well, so he knows the truth: It is 7:30 and I am in my pjs and in bed.

When Dave is gone I take advantage of not having to make dinner for a boy and I eat whatever I want. Tonight, it was a waffle covered in peanut butter and edamame.

Winning combo, right?

I miss Dave so much when he’s gone, but I do love making random meals, crawling into bed super early and watching a Friends or Sex and the City marathon. I wouldn’t trade our life for these lame nights I have alone, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy edamame, peanut butter waffles, Carrie Bradshaw and an 8:30pm bedtime.

I hope you had a happy hump day!

What do you love to do when you have a night alone? Do you eat random things or is that just me?Β

  1. I love that you have breakfast for dinner when I’m away. That way, we can pretend it doesn’t ever happen πŸ™‚ but I’m jealous for the soybeans πŸ™ … Maybe when I kiss you when I get home, it will make everything all better … As usual πŸ™‚

    • You’ll be home before you know it, babe! We miss you! xoxo

P.S. Breakfast for dinner really should be had more often. We need to revisit this issue.

  2. A waffle for dinner sounds delicious. Try to enjoy that time to do girly things while he’s gone and you’ll appreciate him more when he’s back πŸ™‚

  3. I always experiment more! My bf used to be a really picky eater so I don’t try new things on him until I make at least one or two attempts solo!

Our puppy did the reverse sneeze thing for a whole and we called the drs too!

    • I’m so glad to know I’m not the only paranoid pet owner out there, Megan!

  4. I am glad Ob is okay!! A couple months ago, Nola had this night that she was drooling incessantly and was just really out of it. I had a breakdown! Like a Tierra style breakdown.

  5. I love when I have the night to myself to eat whatever I want to make, snuggle up by the TV and watch whatever I want, while blogging probably πŸ™‚ Peace and quiet πŸ™‚

    • Peace & Quiet really is so nice. Sometimes I feel like ESPN is the soundtrack to my life. haha

  6. I love that Ob was sitting on the chair – so adorable! Glad it was just a sneeze and nothing more. Scary. I really enjoy the occasional night when Scott is gone – get to eat whatever I want for dinner – usually Panera or Noodles because he doesn’t like those – and the TV is all mine. . . of course now that we have Luke, it also means solo baby duty so I don’t let him go away too often! πŸ˜‰

    • Katie, I have a feeling when we have kids I’ll be freaking on the nights Dave is gone. For now, I’ll enjoy them for all they are worth though. πŸ˜‰

And I have never heard of Noodles, but it sounds like a place I would love.

  7. So glad your pup is ok!! That is scary.

I am EXACTLY. THE. SAME. WAY. when Connor is gone. I will eat cereal for dinner, paired with a glass of wine and sit down for endless episodes of SATC, or The OC, or Roswell. It’s like the girl equivalent of drinking a lot of beer and playing Call of Duty for 5 hours (which is what I’m assuming our boyfriends do when we’re not there.)

    • De, whenever I go out of town Dave gets excited for boxed mac and cheese and pizza hut and ESPN on surround sound. You’re so right! We just do the female version of what they do!

  8. There needs to be a “like” feature on your blog, beautiful πŸ™‚

  9. Awww. You’re just as obsessed with your pooch as I am with mine!! I’m always blogging about my Smoosh (and taking photos, which he rather despises;)

Hope the new vet works out! I know switching can make me a bit anxious.
